Shan Rose fends off re-election bid by Regina Hill

Voters in Orlando’s District 5 have re-elected City Commissioner Shaniqua “Shan” Rose, who secured just over 52% of the vote Tuesday, narrowly avoiding a runoff in one of Central Florida’s closely watched local races.

Former Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill lost her election bid to reclaim her District 5 seat. She was defeated by Shan Rose. Hill was suspended as District 5 Orlando City Commissioner in 2023 by Gov. Ron DeSantis amid allegations that she financially exploited an elderly woman. That case is still progressing through the court system.

Lake County road remains closed after flooding damage

Wolf Branch Road in Mount Dora will remain closed for another month after a portion of it was washed out by several inches of rain that fell almost two weeks ago. Crews will increase the drainage capacity and make some other changes on that road. As for Britt Road, also in Mount Dora, it has been closed since it was damaged during Hurricane Milton last year. However, the county said it has just received grants to help pay for construction costs.

Orlando firefighters rescue 1 from burning home

Firefighters in Orlando arrived at a house fire before anyone even called 911. They were driving along Interstate 4 when they spotted smoke at a home near Inter & Co Stadium. One person was rescued.

Food banks struggle to have enough food amid SNAP shutdown

President Trump said in a Truth Social post Tuesday that SNAP benefits won’t be paid until the government reopens. Now, Orlando area food pantries are preparing for an influx of people, but say without the help of SNAP benefits it's a "losing battle" to feed those in need.

Orlando Fire share update on Nov. 4 structure fire

Five occupants in a duplex at Parramore and South Streets were displaced after a challenging structure fire took place. Firefighters rescued one resident who was trapped. The origin of the fire is unknown as the investigation is ongoing.
