National Hurricane Preparedness Week is the first week of May, a full month before the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, which begins June 1. As part of those preparations, experts recommend you review your insurance policies to make sure you’re covered for any disaster Mother Nature might throw your way.

The Florida Department of Emergency Management is working to repair tiger dams it had installed along Volusia County’s coastline. Those barriers are protecting homes along the coast from ocean waves since hurricanes degraded the shore. At least, they were, until the FDEM says someone took a knife to them.

Staff and rescuers lined up the residents at The Bridge Assisted Living, then brought them out to boats with Orange County Fire, or to trucks with the Army National Guard.

An ambulance got trapped in extremely flooded streets in the SoDo District of Orlando early Thursday morning as Hurricane Ian lashed the area with downpours and high wind gusts. The system downgraded to a tropical storm on Thursday morning.

As Hurricane Ian continues its ways across the Caribbean, it is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane. Florida is within the so-called "cone of uncertainty."

The Naples Fire Department had to push a fire truck out of the station bay Wednesday during a storm surge because the truck may have reportedly caught on fire, according to the Fire Chief. 

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Key West were called to rescue several people from waters as Hurricane Ian approached Florida's west coast. 

As of Wednesday at 8:00 a.m., Seminole County has issued an evacuation order for flood prone, mobile/manufactured homes, and persons with special needs. The Seminole County Office of Emergency Management has announced the opening of the following emergency shelters beginning at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.

FOX 35 started reporting last Friday about the potential for a run on gas as people prepare for Hurricane Ian to hit Florida.

Lina and Jeremy Graves run a wildlife preserve in Brevard County, Florida called Romelia Farms. The farm flooded after a storm two weeks ago and that had them wondering how a hurricane might impact the preserve.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is using the Orange County Convention Center as its home base for deploying emergency aid during Hurricane Ian.
