8 arrested in multi-million dollar fraud investigation

Eight people are facing charges in a multi-state, $8.8 million bank fraud and racketeering scheme impacting 235 people, mainly those who are elderly, according to Attorney General James Uthmeier and Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. Uthmeier and Judd made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday at the Polk County Sheriff?s Office in Winter Haven. The suspects have all now been extradited and booked into the Polk County Jail.

Sheriff Grady Judd leads cartel crackdown

Sheriff Grady Judd says Polk County detectives seized 64 pounds of fentanyl in what the sheriff's office calls the largest fentanyl seizure in the county's history. Judd says the investigation began in July 2024 and involved Mexico's two largest cartels: Jalisco and Sinaloa. Six suspected Jalisco members and two Sinaloa members have been arrested. A total of 35 pounds of fentanyl were seized from Jalisco and another 29 pounds were seized from Sinaloa, according to Judd ? enough to kill 14.5 million people.

1 dead, deputy injured in Polk County shooting

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead and a deputy injured on Friday night. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
