Florida Hurricane Catastrophe fund has more than $17 billion saved

Hurricane season is right around the corner and Florida's hurricane fund appears to be ready.

Despite losses from Hurricane Irma, estimates show that the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe fund will have more than $17 billion available this year.

The fund built up its reserves during a lengthy period when there were no storms. It's health is important because the state can impose a surcharge on most insurance policies to replenish the fund if money runs out.
