Push to keep medical marijuna dispensaries out of Winter Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - There is a push to keep medical marijuana dispensaries out of Winter Park.

Two weeks ago, the city commission read an ordinance banning the dispensaries, and in a 4-1 vote, they decided not to allow the facilities within the city limits.  A second reading was held on Monday. 

"Right now, the state has given local governments the ability and authority to decide: 1) on whether or not to allow medical marijuana dispensaries where pharmacies are currently zoned, or 2) to prohibit the dispensaries within the city limits," explained Clarissa Howard, a spokesperson for the city.

This is the second and final reading of the medical marijuana ordinance.  During the first reading, city officials said they only had one person from the public come up and speak out, and they anticipate a similar turnout on Monday night.
