OneBlood experiencing 'critical' blood shortage

OneBlood is pleading with the public for blood donations due to a critical shortage.

Specifically, they are asking for those with O+ blood type to please step up and donate.

"O+ is the most common blood type and is always in need by area hospitals. During the summer blood donations drop," the company wrote on Facebook.

According to the OneBlood website, "37% of the population has O+ blood. Since more people have O+ blood than any other blood type, it is transfused more often."

To donate, you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 16 years old.

If you do not know your blood type, you can donate and the center will let you know.
