Details released in arrest of brother of Orlando Police Chief

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Edward Michael Mina is behind bars, charged with sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation on a child.  According to Edward Mina's Facebook page, he works at Lowe's Home improvement, living a more private life than his younger brother, Orlando Police Chief John Mina.

According to Edward Mina’s arrest affidavit, a teen girl reported to her school resource officer that Edward Mina, 51, had molested her and she believed he needs to go to jail.  

Investigators say the girl told detectives that when she was just 10 years old, Edward Mina started “teaching me how to kiss," began molesting her, telling her "never tell anyone what I do to you, it's our little secret."

According to the arrest affidavit, detectives immediately had the girl call Edward Mina while they recorded the conversation. Investigators say the girl told Edward Mina that she had told her friend about what he had been doing to her and that a school counselor was now involved.  

The Orange County Sheriff's Office says Edward Mina responded by saying, "if you tell them the truth I am going to jail for a long time.  If you don't tell them the truth, I will do anything."  

When deputies showed up on Edward Mina’s doorstep, records say he answered sayin,g "I know what this is about, my wife doesn't know anything about it."

Chief John Mina released a statement, which read, "these are extremely serious and disturbing criminal allegations. At this time, I am most concerned with the welfare and privacy of the child involved, and won't be making any further comment."

According to the Orange County Clerk of Courts website, these are the first felony charges against Edward Mina.  The only thing on his record is a traffic citation.
