Tropical Storm Imelda is slowly continuing to strengthen as it spins across the northwestern Bahamas, and forecasters with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) say the storm could become Hurricane Imelda by Tuesday.

Tropical depression strengthens into Tropical Storm Imelda

A tropical system developed late Friday off the eastern coast of Cuba, prompting storm alerts for parts of the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. The disturbance, previously designated Invest 94L, was now classified as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 in the Atlantic, which is expected to become Tropical Storm Imelda in the coming days.

A system in the Atlantic, currently designated as Invest 94L, is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Imelda within the next 24 hours, with forecasters warning of possible impacts on the U.S. East Coast early next week.
