Authorities in Volusia County said shots were fired on a basketball court Tuesday evening. Daytona Beach police officers arrive at Derbyshire Sports Complex around 6:30 p.m. after reports of the shooting.

Port St. John parents push school safety after campus lockdowns

Last week, Space Coast Jr/Sr High School was placed on lockdown after deputies with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) said they received a call about a vehicle parked on the property. Since then, at least two families have said they’re moving to homeschool their children because of safety concerns.

Families who attend Space Coast Jr/Sr High and Enterprise Elementary were alerted by school leadership about a man who had parked his vehicle on school property and couldn’t be found. This prompted a massive law enforcement investigation last week. In the end, investigators found out the vehicle belonged to Marvin Guth who was allegedly trespassed from a Port St. John school because of concerning behavior in the past.

Florida teen arrested, charged in fake abduction

A 17-year-old boy accused of staging a shooting and alleging his own abduction has been arrested and charged, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said. The boy was arrested on Tuesday on charges of providing false evidence, shooting into a conveyance, making a false report of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a minor. FOX 35 is not naming the boy or showing his mug shot due to his age.

Woman files lawsuit against Polk County Grady Judd

A new lawsuit accuses the Polk County Sheriff’s Office of a “pattern, policy, practice and custom, of failing to adequately train and supervise its officers resulting in the deprivation of minors’ constitutional rights.” The lawsuit comes after a child was raped by her adoptive father, but police first criminally charged the child instead of her abuser, accusing the little girl of lying. The victim’s abuser is now behind bars, facing a 17-year sentence.
