Two children hit by car during annual Santa Run

The Indian Harbour Beach Police Department is investigating after two children were hit by a car during the Indian Harbour Beach Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Santa Run.

Brevard County Fire Rescue said the children were hit by a car near the Publix at South Patrick and Parkside Drive around 8 p.m. Sunday night.

The Indian Harbour Beach Volunteer Fire Department said the accident happened during its annual Santa Run where they escort Santa around town in an antique fire engine. The volunteer fire department posted on its Facebook page that they saw the driver hit the two children.

The firefighters escorting Santa immediately rushed to help them. Medical helicopters were called to the scene and the children were flown to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. IHBVFD said the driver stopped and cooperated with police.

There’s been no word on the children’s condition or whether or not charges will be filed.
