Signs warn neighbors of fireworks, veteran PTSD

Local veterans groups want people to be aware of their neighbors during this July Fourth holiday.

They are handing out yard signs to people who want to let their communities know that a combat veteran lives in the neighborhood. They want to let people know that veterans who have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can have bad reactions to the loud bangs and smoke that come from fireworks. They warn that it can trigger unpredictable reactions from veterans who served in active combat zones.

Along with combat veterans, police say children and pets can also be disturbed by the random noise and lights from people setting off fireworks.
