Residents in Umatilla hit hard by Hurricane Irma look back one year later

Everyone in Umatilla knew the weather was bad and getting worse.

It was September 2017, and Hurricane Irma was bearing down on Central Florida.

As the wind picked up, there was a deafening roar.

Minutes later, areas of the small Lake County city were left torn apart.

The National Weather Service would later say it was an EF1 tornado that ripped through Umatilla.

One year later, most of the damage is cleaned up, but the memories linger.

The News Station's Tom Johnson spent time with the people who lived through it.
