Free ice cream citation for kids wearing their bicycle helmets

Young bike riders in White Haven, Pennsylvania are being ticketed for being good responsible kids. Local cops have begun issuing what some are calling "ice cream citations" as they give out tickets to those who are obeying traffic laws by wearing their helmets.

These bike riders say they have no problem getting ticketed and it is even encouraged to be a "repeat offender."

"We give them to every kid we see riding a bicycle with a helmet. If they are being safe doing the right thing. We cite them," explained White Haven Police Chief Thomas Szoke. "We took some heat in the beginning because people didn't understand about citing them, but once the idea got out and everyone understood it It got a lot better."

The White Haven Police Department's safe summer initiative seems to not only be helping kids stay safer, but is also creating a positive relationship between police and the community.
