A bald eagle that was trapped in a storm drain last week has died, caretakers say.

The fight to save an injured bald eagle has come to a sad end at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland. The center confirmed that the bird died of its injuries on Tuesday.

The eagle was injured in a fight with another eagle and became trapped in a storm drain along Goldenrod Road near Curry Ford Road.  Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were able to captured the bird for treatment.  Now, that eagle's health has taken a turn for the worse after it was discovered that the bird may have suffered possible organ failure. The eagle’s caregivers said that due to its puncture wounds, the animal collected fluid around its heart and lung.
