Driver accused of trying to run down officer

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an officer involved shooting in Oviedo.

Oviedo police spokesperson Lt. Heather Capetillo said two officers were responding to a 911 call on Sharon Court.  When they arrived, they discovered a man and his wife inside a car.

"Apparently, he was agitated, and he pulled out towards one of our officers. Our officer felt threatened, fired," she said.

Investigators say the man was shot in the stomach.  He drove into Orange County, where deputies caught up with him and took him to the hospital.

One neighbor, who did not want to be on camera, said the man was parked in a driveway. But he says the man went around the police officer.   You can see the tire tracks in the middle of the street.

The man's wife says, "He revved that engine when he seen them, and he took off.  When he took off, that's when they started shooting."

The man's wife says she was grazed. "When they started firing, he just kept moving back and fourth like this, to keep the bullets from hitting me. He was like, 'They shooting!  They shooting!' and he just said, 'I'm hit!' and all I could say was,  'I'm hit too!'  They could have killed us."

Police plan to release the name of the driver and charges on Friday.
