DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says a Deltona High School student faces a criminal charge after allegedly making a threat about having a gun in his backpack on campus.
The 16-year-old male student was charged with making a false report concerning the use of a firearm, a felony, after his statement was reported to a school resource deputy.
A deputy responded to the front gate this morning after the gate attendant heard the student say “I have a gun in my backpack” as he walked on campus.
The student told the deputy he only meant the comment as a joke.
