5-year-old chess prodigy to play at the national championship in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A five-year-old chess playing prodigy is gearing up for the national championships in Orlando.

Ryan Mecham lives in Texas and he recently brought home a trophy as big as he is, as Ryan won every match at the State Kindergarten Championships. 

His mom says this all started less than a year ago when he saw someone else playing chess. His mother says that "we took him to the local library's chess club and in a couple of weeks. he was beating almost everyone there."
