UF student on bike killed by garbage truck
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a University of Florida student on a bicycle was run over and killed by a garbage truck near campus.
The Gainesville Sun reports that 20-year-old Abigail Dougherty died at the scene Friday morning.
Police say Dougherty was attempting to cross a busy intersection when the garbage truck hit her. It wasn't clear who had the right of way.
West University Avenue was closed for about two hours.
No charges were immediately reported.
