Teen charged with written threats at Matanzas High School

A student at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast, Florida was arrested on Monday, accused of making school threats on social media.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a SnapChat video with a teenager making threats to the school that potentially came from a student at Matanzas High.

According to authorities, the video showed the teen holding what appears to be a long gun style firearm.  Deputies said he points the gun at the screen and appears to be talking but there is no audio due to the video being recorded, which does not capture audio. There is a written caption on the video that states, "I got sum for y'all just wait till 2:15."

An investigation revealed that the original Snapchat video had been removed from Snapchat and was date-stamped four weeks ago.

School resource deputies immediately located the student, a 15-year-old boy, and searched him to ensure there was no firearm on campus. He was then taken into custody and charged with written threats to kill, which is a second-degree felony.

"We cannot stress the fact enough that we have a zero tolerance policy in Flagler County and making a threat will be taken seriously," Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. "Whether you think it is a joke or not, making a threat is a crime with serious consequences. Any and all threats will be investigated. I am thankful for the anonymous person who called to alert us to the video.  Parents, talk to your kids!"
