System over Bahamas could bring rain over holiday weekend

LAKE MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - An area of showers and thunderstorms over the western Atlantic Ocean, near and northeast of the Bahamas, is associated with the interaction of an upper-level trough and a weakening cold front.  

While development is not expected for the next couple of days, conditions could become more conducive for some tropical or subtropical development by Friday.

"Big question is though, will the wind sheer continue to hit it hard it is?" said FOX 35 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Richards.  "There's a lot of wind sheer right now. Water temperatures are warm, but borderline warm. The real warm waters are down across the Caribbean. Remember that warm water is food for any area of low pressure that wants to try and form into something tropical.  This area right now doesn't have a lot of food energy to work with."

This area of disturbed weather is expected to move slowly west-northwestward or northwestward and gradually approach the southeastern United States over the next few days.
