Sheriff's Office urges parents against purchasing 'novelty gun' phone case
SAN MATEO, Calif. (FOX 35 NEWS) - A Sheriff's Office in California is urging parents to not purchase or let their children purchase 'novelty gun' cell phone cases.
The sheriff's office says that it could create unwanted scrutiny from law enforcement for whoever uses it. They go on to say that regular citizens may see it and call 911. Law enforcement will respond as if it is a subject with a gun call. They go as far as to say that someone could potentially get shot depending on their actions.
A student in DeLand was arrested in February after he brought a phone case resembling a gun to school. The officers locked down the school and found the student with a pink, gun-shaped phone case. The student was charged with disrupting a school function.
