School safety: Brevard County Sheriff wants to deputize selected members of the community

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has a new school shooting plan that is based off the belief that a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with gun.

He said this after the Parkland shooting and continues to move forward it -- which some find controversial.

However, Sheriff Ivey does not want to arm teachers. He wants to deputize carefully selected members of the community who will receive more hours of training than new officers.

"I am a big believer if you're faced with a challenge, you must respond by doing things you have never done before to solve the problem," said Sheriff Ivey.

Students will hold a town hall meeting this weekend to discuss the plan.
