POLK COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Polk County confirmed on Friday its sixth case of rabies this year.
The sheriff's office animal control section said on Wednesday, deputies received a call from a Waverly dog owner whose boxer had a bat in its mouth.
Officials say when the boxer dropped the bat, the woman killed the bat with a shovel.
Animal control officials say the bat was sent for rabies testing and the results came back positive.
In a release, deputies say the dog was vaccinated and obtained a rabies booster.
