A small plane went down in the middle of a crowded Volusia County neighborhood, taking chucks out of two homes on Saturday afternoon.

The plane clipped two homes on Campanello Court, near LPGA Boulevard and North Nova Road, right before crashing into a retention pond. One house was severely damaged, leaving a hole in the ceiling.

The two men on the plane are lucky to be alive. The two only have minor injuries and they were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but are expected to be okay.

Neighbors say that they will never forget the sound of the plane crashing, even comparing it to thunder and lightning.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a recovery team are on scene. Fox 35 reporter Amanda McKenzie was on scene and saw several people going into the water looking for parts and pieces of the broken plane. A crane has also been called out to retrieve the rest of that airplane.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are taking the lead on the investigation of the cause of the crash.
