Orlando vigil held for school shooting victims

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Around 50 people, including Orange County School Board members, attended a vigil for the people killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

"As a mom, I think about it," said parent Emmy Zumwalt.  "It gets to me, because I think about all those kids and their lives being cut short and those moms and how much they love their kids. Oh it's hard."

The Florida and Orange County PTA says enough is enough, and they want to see changes to improve safety in schools.

"PTA supports common sense laws and we definitely have to explore gun legislation and mental health legislation and address those issues and there needs to be some common ground found," said Valerie Radcliffe, Vice President of Education Orange County Council of PTA.

While some are calling to arm arm teachers, the teacher's union president in Orange County disagrees.

"I seriously would never teach at a school where teachers are armed. I don' t think that's a solution," said Wendy Doromal. 

"We're doing a top to bottom review over school security," explained Orange County School District Chairman Bill Sublette.

Administrators have increased random weapons checks and coordination with law enforcement.  PTA representatives said they plan to head to Tallahassee this week to talk to lawmakers about changes.
