Orange County officials plan storm preparations

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Supervisors are Orange County Emergency management are warning residents to be prepared just in case bad weather hits.

Here at Emergency Management, Ron Plummer is preparing for a busy weekend. "We're looking at some severe weather coming across," he says.   Plummer says a storm is expected to hit Central Florida between 7 o'clock in the morning to 1 p.m.  on Friday, but it may also be as late at 4 p.m.  Wind is the biggest concern. "We have some tornado activity that's expected, of course we don't know where it's going to hit but we would like everyone to be aware."

He's warning residents to watch out for downed trees and power lines. "The strong wind causes the trees to fall or break. And when we get the tree damage from the old type of trees then that causes damage to personal property to homes, power lines, what not." If you do have damage, Plummer recommends taking pictures of whatever has been ruined. "Turn it in with your insurance and hopefully get a claim for it."

He also recommends having extra food, water, medication and other supplies just in case the power goes out. And if there is an evacuation, have a plan in place."You want to prepare your family just in case."
