It's a small organization with a big impact on the community.

“We give out food to approximately 50 to 55 families every Monday and Friday,” said Gloria Max of the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties.

The Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler counties non -profit gives to their own on a daily basis, but when disaster strikes away from home they're also there -- this time it's in Louisiana.

“For every disaster this federation always takes it personally and we know how it is we have a food bank and we know how important it is to help people,” Max said.

Max files through stacks of thank cards from recipients they've helped in previous disasters, now they're raising money to help the flood victims in Louisiana, getting names of specific families who lost, houses, businesses an so much more --- writing them personal checks of assistance.

“It's such a trauma that they're going through if they wait until the government helps them it might be a month or two before they get anything," Max said. "We're the little bit of funds that they get."

The checks are distributed by their partners in Louisiana -- Max says receiving the letters of thanks, from those benefiting from the much needed funds is what makes it all worth it.

"They're just amazed that this little organization does this for them, so we're happy to do this," Max said.
