Horse sent to slaughter getting second chance at life

A horse originally sent to slaughter is now getting a second chance at life.

Highway the horse fell out of the back of a trailer while being sent to the slaughterhouse.

He was hit by car, before deputies arrived to rescue him.

Now, he is safe at the Dreamcatcher Horse Rescue in Clermont.

Rescuers say he will live out the rest of his life there.

Highway has already been through two surgeries, but has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

Dreamcatcher Horse Rescue has set up a fundraiser on its Facebook page to pay for Highway's recovery and medications.

The group hopes to raise $7,500 in the next month.
