Residents flagged down a Hillsborough County deputy on patrol to help a puppy that fell into a storm drain filled with water.

The puppy was struggling to stay afloat. Using tools, Deputies Tara Quezada and Zachary Shute removed the storm drain cover to try and get to her.

A bystander gave the deputies a net, but even with the net, the puppy was out of reach. So, Deputy Shute lowered Deputy Qezada head-first into the storm drain, holding onto her duty belt, and she used the net to rescue the puppy.

The puppy was affectionately named, "Poncho," and taken to the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center.

The center will try to find Poncho's owners or find her a new home.
