2 homes damaged by fire in Orange County

Flames raced through two homes in Orange County late Friday afternoon.  Crews fought the massive fire for hours, to keep it from spreading to other homes along Mellowood Drive in the Azalea Park neighborhood.

Firefighters remained at the scene into Friday evening, checking for hot spots and watering down parts of the property that continued to smolder.  Before the firefighters arrived, one nearby neighbor says he broke a window to see if anyone was inside one of the homes. Fortunately, both houses were not occupied.

A dog was inside one of the home but was pulled to safety, treated with oxygen and is expected to be okay. You coud even see the dog wagging its tail as it is carried away by a firefighter.

Orange County Fire Rescue can not say at this point what caused the fire, but officials say the wind and dry conditions most likely contributed to it spreading quickly.
