As Hurricane Ian continues its ways across the Caribbean, it is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane. Florida is within the so-called "cone of uncertainty."

As Floridians continue to prepare, here is the emergency information to know in Brevard County, including evacuations, road closures, school closings, and where to get sand and sandbags. As additional information comes into the FOX 35 newsroom, we will update this page.

OSCEOLA COUNTY SANDBAGS

Civic Center, 3001 17th St. (Limit of 15 sandbags, and you must fill them yourself.)

No evacuations ordered.

OSCEOLA COUNTY EMERGENCY SHELTERS

The Osceola County Special Needs Shelter will open on Tuesday, September 27, at 2 p.m. at the Council on Aging, located at 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee, FL 34744. For more information, please call the Osceola County Special Needs hotline at 407-742-9001.

Osceola County’s three general population shelters will open on Tuesday, September 27, at 2 p.m.:

  • Celebration High School – 1809 Celebration Boulevard, Celebration, FL 34747
  • Kissimmee Middle School (Pet-Friendly) – 2410 Dyer Blvd, Kissimmee, FL 34741
  • Harmony High School - 3601 Arthur J Gallagher Boulevard, St Cloud, FL 34771

Pet-friendly shelters:

The American Red Cross, and the School District of Osceola County offers pet friendly sheltering. 

OSCEOLA COUNTY SCHOOL CLOSURES

All Osceola district public schools will be closed for the next three days (Sept. 27, 28, and 29) due to Hurricane Ian. All school activities, events, and programs scheduled for these days are canceled. At this time, no decision has been made regarding school on Friday, Sept. 30.
