Hurricane Sally lumbered ashore near the Florida-Alabama line Wednesday as a Category 2 storm, with 105 mph winds and rain measured in feet, not inches, swamping homes and forcing the rescue of hundreds as it pushed inland at just 3 mph.
Hurricane Sally continues to move further inland, bringing catastrophic flooding, heavy rain, and hurricane-force winds to the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama.
Forecasters say catastrophic and life-threatening flooding is likely from Sally along portions of the northern Gulf Coast.
Alabama and Florida saw the worst impacts from the storm.
The system made landfall on Wednesday near Gulf Shores, Alabama as a Category 2 storm.
Sally has rapidly strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane and is expected to produce destructive wind, life-threatening storm surges, and flooding to the Gulf Coast.
