HOLLY HILL, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A stolen car slammed head-on into a truck in Holly Hill on Tuesday afternoon. The carjacker attempted to to steal another car, but a mother and child were in the vehicle. The mother wasn’t going down without a fight, yelling until the suspect took off.
Holly Hill Police say that two men stole a car out of Daytona Beach Shores and crashed it into a truck at the intersection of 6th Street and Center Avenue in Holly Hill. They say when the driver hopped out, he tried to steal another car parked in the lot of a nearby convenience store.
A mom and her young child were inside the second car. Police say the mother fought off the driver. One neighbor told Fox 35 she fought him with a can of soup. The driver then fled the scene and is still on the run. “The driver is still on the run. We’re working right now to identify him. We do have some leads we’re working on,” said Holly Hill Police Chief Steve Aldrich.
The driver is described as a black man in his 20's and was wearing a grey hoodie. The passenger in his car, Antonio Harper, was taken to the hospital and is expected to be charged for having a stolen and concealed handgun. No one else was hurt in the crash.
