Veteran seeks mystery donor

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Volusia County family is searching for a woman who left a 93-year-old World War II veteran in awe of her good deed. 

“I want her to know that this is the best Christmas present I’ve ever had,” said George Seney Jr., who served in the U.S. Coast Guard. 
 
He says he met the mystery woman only for a few moments at a Publix in New Smyrna Beach over the weekend. 
 
“The lady on the end of the line noticed I was a World War II veteran so she comes over and thanks me for my service and gave me a big hug and said, ‘I want you to have a Merry Christmas,’ and she put something in my hand,” Seney explained. 
 
He says he looked down and realized it was $50. 
 
“I rolled it up and I went back to the lady, I said, ‘You made a mistake, that’s too much money.’ She says, ‘No, I want you to have a Merry Christmas,’” he recalled. “After I started thinking about it, I said, ‘What a gesture.’” 
 
He told his son, who decided to take action. 
 
“There’s so many bad things going on in the world that I thought it would be nice to put something out on social media and I’d like to find the lady,” said George Seney III. 
 
The family now on a mission to pass on their appreciation and let the woman know her deed doesn’t end here. 
 
“The best thing I could do with that is donate it,” Seney said. 
 
“That’s what Christmas time is all about, sharing. She shared with him and now he’ll share it back. He’s paying it forward,” his son said.
