South Carolina seniors evacuate to metro Atlanta area
ATLANTA - Some senior evacuees from South Carolina are making the most of their stay in the metro Atlanta area.
The Roswell Senior Center held a warm welcome for about 50 seniors living at their sister properties in Hilton Head and Charleston. Staff members there threw an island-themed party complete with Hawaiian leis.
Not far down the road in Lawrenceville, an assisted-living community opened their doors to dozens displaced by Hurricane Matthew. About 36 seniors and 10 staffers from Charleston arrived Thursday on two charter buses at the Bridge Senior Living Community.
Staff there lined up out front, each holding a letter forming the words “Welcome Charleston” for the seniors. Some of the seniors, who are not sure how long they will be in town because of the storm, said they felt right at home.

On Wednesday and south of Atlanta, Somerby of Peachtree City welcomes nearly 50 residents and almost 20 staff from their sister facility in South Carolina. Residents drove the 6 hours to the Fayette County facility.
Facility staff said they stocked up on air mattresses and bedding for the seniors. They plan to have fun activities planned for the duration of their stay to help pass the time.
