Orlando Sanford International Airport land slated for $300+ million dollars of development
Local perspective:
ORLANDO, Fla. - Seminole County officials said Orlando Sanford International Airport in Sanford, FL, was a huge economic driver for the county, and its influence was only getting bigger.
Seminole County leaders said that land around the airport may soon be helping businesses take off.
"It's going to be upwards of probably $300-$400 million worth of development, which will compliment everything that's already there," said Commissioner Jay Zembower.
Airport staff said the board had accepted letters of intent from two large companies looking to develop airport land.
PPK Aviation wanted to lease 36 acres of land.
EPC Aerospace was looking to lease about 67 acres for an aircraft modification and maintenance center.

What they're saying:
"About 1,000 jobs, we're talking about hangars, maintenance center, even a possible hotel," said Commissioner Lee Constantine.
Commissioners said they expected workers to break ground on these projects before the end of the year.
They said there were about 450 acres of available land around the airport, with 150 acres currently slated for development, and more on the way.
Commissioner Andria Herr said it would especially help the Midway community, which was near the land where these businesses would rise.
"Folks there can now walk to meaningful job opportunities, particularly the younger folks who may not have a car. It can change the economic trajectory of their lives."
