Florida pastor's wife dies after brutal beating during home invasion, family says
ORLANDO, Fla. - Lucy Pat Curl, the wife of an Orlando pastor, died Wednesday morning after being removed from life support, according to her family. The 85-year-old woman had been in a medically induced coma following a brutal beating during a home invasion, police said.
What they're saying:
The Curl family released a statement on Wednesday, Feb. 5, announcing her passing and funeral arrangements:
"On Tuesday Lucy Pat was taken off life support. She went on to Heaven early this morning. We rejoice that she is no longer in pain.
The circumstances of her passing are shocking and abrupt, and not what we would have expected or chosen. But as our Lord has forgiven us, we are asked to forgive each other.
At one point Bill (her husband) took her picture, before the results of the attack had been cleaned up. When asked what he would do with a picture like that, his response was, "I’m going to show it to the man who did this to her. Then I’m going to forgive him. I refuse to let his actions dictate who I am." So we would ask for you to do the same.
Please respect the family's privacy as we begin to figure out what life after Lucy Pat looks like. We request and appreciate your prayers.
Her celebration service will be on Sunday, February 16 at 4:00 at First Baptist Church of Orlando,
In Christ,
The Curl Extended Family"

The backstory:
On Jan. 31, police responded to a home on Caribbean Court, off S John Young Parkway, for a report of a home invasion, after Lucy's husband found her severely beaten, according to police.
Her husband called 911 stating a man, later identified by police as Ronald Davis, had forced himself inside their home, and brutally attacked his wife.
She was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
On the morning of the incident, Davis knocked on Lucy's door, claiming to be a community service officer, according to an arrest report.

When she asked him for identification, he reportedly took out his wallet and police said he forced his way inside and started attacking her.
Detectives said he hit her over the head with a crystal candy jar, knocking her unconscious.
Officers said Davis then stole several items of jewelry before leaving her bleeding on the floor inside the home.
Who is Ronald Davis?
Davis, 55, was quickly identified as the suspect after leaving his wallet and driver's license at the scene, according to an arrest affidavit. Police later found him sleeping inside a shed on a residential property a few miles from the victim's home.

Davis was arrested on charges of home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery on person over 65 with great bodily harm and aggravated battery with a weapon. On Wednesday, police added an additional charge of first-degree murder in the commission of a home invasion following Lucy's death.
Investigators said Davis was released from prison in June 2024 after serving a 15-year concurrent sentence for burglary of a dwelling with assault and battery, as well as robbery.
