1 arrested after stolen gun and drugs discovered in stolen car

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reports that around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, their District 3 Crime Suppression Team attempted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Impala on Leon Lane in Daytona Beach.

They say that Deputy Steven Woell approached the vehicle and ordered the passenger, Jamie Cash, to show his hands. Deputy Woell noticed Cash appeared to be trying to conceal a handgun. Cash then jumped out of the car and ran. Deputy Woell gave chase and took Cash into custody a short distance away.

According to the sheriff's office, a perimeter was established and a K-9 team was deployed in an effort to locate the driver, but he was not located. The Crime Suppression Team did however recover a gun from within the vehicle. The gun contained a magazine with six bullets, including one in the chamber, and was stolen out of Edgewater.

The Crime Suppression Team reportedly also located a backpack containing trafficking amounts of Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, MDMA and Diazepam. Cash was found to have eight prior felony convictions and was released from prison in 2010 for robbery. They also found that the vehicle was just stolen from an address in Holly Hill.

Cash was charged with grand theft motor vehicle, armed trafficking in methamphetamine, armed trafficking in Oxycodone, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed firearm, grand theft firearm, possession of MDMA, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, resisting arrest without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody today at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $131,000 bond
