FOX 35 Storm Alert Day expires as severe weather pushes south

A FOX 35 Storm Alert Day declared on Friday afternoon by the FOX 35 Storm Team expired just before 8 p.m.

The storms prompting the concern have passed and the lingering showers are non-severe, according to FOX 35 Meteorologist Brooks Garner.

"We have been on alert all afternoon long, and fortunately, the severe component of these storms is starting to dissipate. It is moving into South Florida," said Garner.

Garner added that the scattered showers, which prompted the delay to several high school football games, will continue to pop up throughout the evening and early morning.  Rain chances for Saturday afternoon are also decreasing.

Earlier in the day, a line of storms produced waterspouts and damaging wind gusts in parts of Volusia County, and there was excessive cloud-to-ground lightning that began moving south into southern Brevard County mid-evening.

At this time, our region is not under any official weather watches or warnings.
