Miami Beach follows up last year's 'Breaking up with Spring Break' with reality TV parody for 2025

Looking forward to spring break in Miami Beach this year? A week by the beach filled with parties, bars and restaurants?

Well, think again because Miami Beach is issuing a major reality check this spring.

What's New? :

This March, Miami Beach is implementing its reality check campaign.

The city posted a video on Tuesday, describing the rules and regulations for spring breakers this year.

In 2024, Miami launched a video on YouTube stating that the city was "breaking up with spring break", suggesting that new laws and curfews would be in effect.

This year, Miami Beach released a reality TV parody, illustrating a group of young adults trying to party, but experiencing major setbacks along the way.

In the video, police officers approach the group and say drinking in public and playing loud music on a speaker are not allowed.

At night, the crew is informed about a potential curfew, leading to several arguments and tension.

"The real villain here is all these rules," said one of the members of the group.

The concluding message of the video? The show is fake, but the rules still apply.

A few things spring breakers are expected to comply with:

  • $100 parking
  • Curfews
  • Security checkpoints
  • DUI enforcement
  • Restricted beach access
  • Closed sidewalk seating on Ocean Drive
  • Heavy police presence
  • MBPD's traffic plan
  • $516 towing rate for nonresidents with vehicles towed in South Beach
  • Closed parking garages and surface lots south of 23rd Street

What they're saying:

Last year's campaign stirred up a bit of success due to Miami seeing limited crowd sizes and less violence. Police Chief Wayne Jones said that arrests citywide went down 8% by March 17, 2024, compared to March 2023.

Police enforcement is hoping to see the same, if not better, effect with the reality check parody released this year.

Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner said, "This year it's a reality check, it's showing what is going to happen if you come here, and you don't play by our rules."
