Leesburg's 23rd annual Bikefest comes to a close
LEESBURG, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - From the roar of the engines to the ‘cha-ching!’ of cash registers, business enjoyed the big crowds at the Leesburg BikeFest.
“I just love it, the enjoyment, the happiness, the comradery, it's just great,” said John Marcus, a biker from the Villages.
Sunday capped the final day of the three-day festival, which featured more than 60 performers and 250 vendors. Local businesses say they raked it in.
“We weren't even open yet. We open at eight and they were knocking on the door at seven, and we were like okay, come on in. It just stayed crazy all day,” said Christina Holmes, a restaurant manager.
The city also benefited from the crowds, with nonprofit groups raising money from the event.
“The Leesburg Partnership will use the money to organize more events - like the Christmas parade, Mardi Gras, and helping the community,” said organizer Greg Thorpe.
Leesburg local Pat Tyskewicz said BikeFest is a big boost for Leesburg. “Absolutely,” she said, “it probably does wonders for the economy and excitement! Leesburg isn't a very exciting town most of the time!”
