Florida man arrested in possible road rage shooting in DeLand: police

A man was arrested in connection to a possible road rage shooting in downtown DeLand over the weekend, according to police.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, shortly before 2 a.m., a man and his friend were driving along N. Woodland Boulevard when they noticed a red vehicle, driven by Daniel Duarte, traveling slowly ahead of them.

As they neared the intersection of N. Woodland Blvd. and New York Avenue, the victim reportedly honked at Duarte's vehicle multiple times. At that point, police said Duarte pulled into a parking space as the victims passed by.

Moments later, Duarte fired several rounds from his vehicle, with two bullets striking the victim’s car. One round went through the passenger's hoodie, narrowly missing his head, according to police.

Neither of the victims were injured in the shooting.

Who is Daniel Duarte?

Investigators identified the suspect as Daniel Duarte, a 22-year-old man from Orlando.

They found his vehicle around 3:38 p.m. on Saturday, and with the help of Volusia County deputies, Duarte was taken into custody. Detectives also found a gun in his vehicle.

Duarte was booked into the Volusia County Jail on charges of two counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, discharging a missile into a vehicle, discharging a firearm in public, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
