Brevard County votes to hire outside security specialists for schools
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Brevard County is stepping up security on campus, as they just approved hiring armed security guards.
The Brevard County School District unanimously voted to hire outside security instead of arming staff under the new plan. The district will hire several security specialists and their only job is to protect schools. They'll be armed after receiving training from the sheriff's office.
The county's decision is drawing a mixed reaction. Some say it will be wild at school with this, others say that having an armed guard on hand to confront a threat if needed will be good.
The district will hire the security specialists this summer and the new program is scheduled to start on July 1st.
