MIMS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Pictures of a devastating and deadly fire show huge flames taking over a house on Brockett Road in Mims. Seven people were trapped inside, including three children.
Grandparents tried to save their 6-year-old granddaughter, but they couldn't get to her in time. Shirley Rock said it was her brother and his family who were inside the home.
She was a very beautiful little girl," she said of her deceased niece.
Her nephew received second-degree burns on his back. A neighbor tried using a water hose to put out the flames.
"They had to crawl out the window, and he's got staples all up and down his legs. He got cut up really bad," Rock said.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death, while the state fire marshal tries to figure out how the fire started.
"Prayers and thoughts would be well well appreciated," Rock added.
The family lost everything in the fire, and now, the America Red Cross is assisting.
