Animal rights group hangs anti-bear hunt banner on I-4

The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida is fighting against the idea of a controversial bear hunt.

The group put up a banner on the Conroy Road overpass over I-4 in Orlando, Tuesday. The banner reads: Tell FWC no bear hunt.

The FWC is meeting Wednesday to look at a staff recommendation for a hunt this fall. The hunt would be broken into three four-day periods. Hunters would have permits that would be specific to dates and areas.

The FWC held a bear hunt last year, for the first time in 20 years. The Commission says it was necessary to keep bear population down since bears are coming closer and closer to humans and invading neighborhoods.

The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida says there's no scientific evidence of that, and killing bears in some areas will not stop them from coming from other areas.
