Hurricane Florence, now standing as a category 3 hurricane, is weakening but is still a strong hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The NHC says that Florence is moving northwest near 10 miles per hour. It is turning toward the west-northwest with a decrease in forward speed, followed by a turn toward the west by this weekend.

Maximum sustained winds have reportedly decreased to near 105 miles per hour with higher wind gusts. Some additional weakening is forecasted today, but Florence is expected to remain a hurricane and likely reintensify over the weekend.

There are no reported coastal watches or warnings currently in place.

The NHC says that swells generated by Florence will begin to affect Bermuda on Friday and will reach portions of the U.S. East Coast over the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
