The race for Florida governor was front and center in Central Florida on the eve of the state's primary election day

About 50 people were at Congressman Ron DeSantis’s rally. Both DeSantis and state Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam made the rounds Monday in a last-ditch effort to secure votes in the Republican gubernatorial race.

DeSantis and Putnam raced across Central Florida, gaining momentum heading into the primaries. Commissioner Putnam met with the Cattleman’s Association in Kissimmee, urging them to get out and vote.

“I feel fantastic. the energy, the passion, all of the work that we’ve done on grassroots comes together right now,” said Putnam.

Congressman DeSantis met with folks at the Speedway in Daytona Beach.

“I had a plan about what I thought I needed to do to win. we executed the plan basically what I thought we needed to do and I think we’ve got a lot of energy,” said DeSantis.”

Endorsed by President Trump, DeSantis touted the President at his rally, backing his plans for the border wall, pushing to ban sanctuary cities in Florida. Putname made it clear this is not a national election.

“I support President Trump’s agenda, but this is about Florida,” said Putnam.

“The way you put Florida first is you put the people and the taxpayers of Florida first. You don’t put the people who are entrenched in Tallahassee first,” said DeSantis.

Both candidates also commented on the shooting in Jacksonville, saying this is a mental health issue and that there needs to be a focus on public safety.
