No more waiting, 'rideshare hubs' coming to Downtown Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 Orlando) - It will soon be more convenient going to Downtown Orlando for a night out. The City of Orlando testing out rideshare hubs to make it easier for people to get home at the end of the night.

"At that time, you're seeing an influx of thousands of people, literally,” said Dominique Greco, Rideshare Hub Project Manager.

The Hub Project Manager Dominique Greco is talking about 2 a.m., when the bars let out. It is not only a safety hazard to have thousands of pedestrians on the street but a challenge for riders to find a car.

"People want to get home safely but on the way grab something to eat, perhaps use the restroom and do that in a well-lit, patrolled area," said Greco.

The two, well-lit hubs will offer restrooms, food trucks, security guard and cars waiting to take riders home from midnight until three in the morning. One will be located at Heritage Park and the other at Gertrude's Avenue.

"A different traffic pattern than we are seeing currently, we'll be able to function more like an airport where cars are flowing, we’ll have flaggers," said Greco.

People we spoke to said, they like the idea.

"For safety purposes, it’s probably one of the best things they can do," said Teresa Shipley, rideshare customer.

"It could be helpful, it's a little hard sometimes on the side of the street," said Matt Blood, rideshare customer.

"It makes it a lot easier for the people and have a good time and it makes it easier for them to get home," said Freddy Fernandez.
