Mayor Dyer delivers State Of The City Address
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A special State Of The City Address for the City of Orlando, delivered Tuesday morning.
Mayor Buddy Dyer scheduled his annual presentation on his 60th birthday. The mayor named his "60 Reasons We Love Orlando and Are Excited About Our Future."
"First up, there's our partnership with Florida Citrus Sports to renovate Lake Lorna Doone Park and add a new playground, sports courts, fitness stations and a walking path," said Mayor Dyer.
Growth was a big talking point for the mayor. Mayor Dyer told the standing room only audience that the city launched a Permitting Express program-making it easier for small businesses to open and grow. He says that helped 300 businesses in the last year alone.
"Commissioner Stewart and I just cut the ribbon on Oxford Eyes in Ivanhoe Village, a small business that went from application to permit in less than three days," Dyer told the crowd.
From making green to being green, the mayor announced that city hall, all 17 fire stations at OPD headquarters are all powered on solar power. The City of Orlando also prides itself on being inclusive.
Right now, the finishing touches being put on the first multi-stall "all user" restroom right outside of council chambers on the 2nd floor of Orlando City Hall. Mayor Dyer says it will increase accessibility for transgender people and those with disabilities.
"It'll have the common area that will have the sinks and changing station and stalls all the way to the ceiling and have doors that go all the way to the ceiling so it'll be totally enclosed," Mayor Dyer explained.
This multi-stall all user restroom is the first of its kind in Florida.
