A Lake Weir High School student was arrested on Wednesday morning for allegedly bringing a knife onto campus, according to a spokesperson for Marion County Public Schools.

What they're saying:

"We are extremely thankful that our students have been trained to see something, say something, and immediately do the right thing," McAteer said. "This is also a great opportunity to remind our students of the consequences of bringing inappropriate items on the school campuses."

What's next:

School officials said the student with the knife showed it to others but did not threaten anyone with it.

McAteer stated that the student would face consequences under the Marion County Code of Student Conduct and potential law enforcement actions.
